I happen to live with my favorite author.
This past week, said author (
) published a delightful new tale on her Substack. It’s an all-ages, cozy sci-fi adventure called Ship Rats, which she wrote as part of ’s “Same Walk, Different Shoes” project. If you have a few minutes to curl up with some cocoa and a cozy tale, check out Petra’s story. (Yes, I’m biased, but I also sincerely love it.)
Her story reminded me of a poem I wrote this past winter, about the joys of living with a writer, so I thought this was the perfect week to dust it off and share it with you.
My Favorite Author
I wake to find the wool spacesuit of your sweater draped across your chair, arms open to the galaxy, a constellation of crumbs orbiting your teacup, and a rocket ship pen cooling its engines on the first page of a new adventure. Little signs you were here in the night, keeping council with the moon, creating worlds.
And here’s an image of today’s poem, if you’d like to share it with someone:
Happy New Year!
