This is a nostalgic time of year for me, in which the calendar is crowded with many types of anniversary — both beginnings and endings.
There is a… a thing I can’t quite find the words to express, about living embedded in the now, while also carrying with us vivid memories of the past and vivid anticipations for the future. It is painful and beautiful, blessing and burden, all at the same time.
Grappling with this complexity is one of the major themes in my poetry, and since the post you’re reading now happens to mark the six month anniversary of this newsletter, I thought I’d share a poem that directly addresses nostalgia:
Picnic
I have an idea! Let’s wake up tomorrow and be twenty-five again. It shouldn’t be hard, we both remember how. The ones we’ve lost won’t be lost back then. We’ll pack a picnic to the park! We'll find animals in the clouds!
Thank you for reading and being part of this newsletter. And thank you all for sharing my work — you are the reason it continues to find new readers. 🙏

I like the thought or idea that went into creating this. It makes me appreciate more the writing. Good read!
I love (thanks to the ellipsis) having the chance to read tomorrow not only as an adverb but also as a direct object
